Field Guide

Geo Blitz

A timed geography quiz where you race the clock to name every country in a category — the ultimate countries of the world quiz under pressure.

Geo Blitz is a free timed geography quiz that challenges you to name as many countries as you can before the clock expires. Pick a category — Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Oceania, World Capitals, A-Z Countries, or a silhouette-based Guess the Country round — and start typing. Each correct answer is checked instantly, and a progress bar fills as you work through the list. If you can name all countries in a category before time runs out, the game records your personal best.

Like Globe Guesser, Geo Blitz is built around the daily-puzzle habit: one category is featured as the daily challenge, shared identically for every player worldwide, with a shareable result you can post when you finish. After completing the daily round you can jump straight into unlimited practice across any category, replaying as many times as you like to chase faster times. The World Capitals category — with its 16-minute window and all 197 countries — doubles as a comprehensive name all countries game that serious geography fans return to repeatedly.

Beyond entertainment, Geo Blitz is a genuine training tool for anyone studying world geography. The A-Z Countries mode forces you to recall at least one country for every eligible starting letter, exposing gaps you never knew you had. The continent modes sharpen regional knowledge, while the capital-city mode builds the kind of paired country-and-capital recall that most geography quizzes test. Regular play measurably improves recall speed — which is exactly what a timed geography quiz is designed to do.

How to Play Geo Blitz

  1. On the category picker, choose a category such as Africa, World Capitals, A-Z Countries, or Guess the Country. The daily challenge category is highlighted; selecting it starts a daily round. Any other category starts an unlimited round.
  2. Once the game begins, the countdown timer starts immediately. Type a country name into the input field — autocomplete is disabled, so you must type the full name and press Enter or wait for the strict-match to register.
  3. For continent categories, every correct answer lights up that country on the map and adds it to the answer list below. Your score shows as a fraction (e.g. 23/54) in real time.
  4. In A-Z Countries mode, you need one country per letter of the alphabet. If you type a country whose starting letter is already covered, the game warns you and the entry does not count — so vary your choices across letters.
  5. In Guess the Country mode, a country silhouette is shown one at a time for ten rounds. Type the matching country name; a green or red flash indicates correct or wrong before the next silhouette appears automatically.
  6. When the timer reaches zero — or when you have named every country in the category — the round ends. You see your score, your completion time if you achieved a clean sweep, and a share button to post your result.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play Geo Blitz?

Select a category from the picker — such as Africa, World Capitals, or A-Z Countries — then type country names into the input field before the countdown timer expires. Each correct entry is added to your score instantly and, where applicable, highlighted on the map. The round ends when you name every country or when time runs out.

What categories are available in Geo Blitz?

Geo Blitz offers nine categories: Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Oceania, World Capitals, A-Z Countries (one country per starting letter), and Guess the Country (a ten-round silhouette mode). One category is chosen as the daily challenge; the rest are available for unlimited practice at any time.

How does difficulty affect Geo Blitz?

Difficulty changes the time multiplier applied to each category's base duration. Easy mode gives you more time, Normal uses the standard duration, and Hard compresses it — so a category that normally allows six minutes may only allow four on Hard. The country pool itself stays the same across difficulties.

Is there a daily Geo Blitz challenge?

Yes — one category is featured as the daily challenge and is the same for every player on that day. Completing it records your daily result, which you can share via the share button. After finishing the daily round, you can play unlimited rounds in any category to practise or chase personal bests.

Does Geo Blitz track personal best times?

Yes. If you name every country in a category before time runs out, the game records your completion time as a personal best and shows it on the category picker. A 'New Record!' banner appears whenever you beat your previous best. Times are stored locally in your browser.

Is Geo Blitz free to play?

Yes, Geo Blitz is completely free with no account, sign-up, or download required. It runs in any modern web browser on desktop or mobile, and all personal best times are saved automatically in your browser's local storage.
